Tasks
The Video Task is an energetic and interactive challenge where players respond by recording a short video. Whether you’re prompting teams to complete a physical action, deliver a message, or act out a scene, video adds creativity and movement to any event. Most players record directly in the app, but you can also allow uploads from the gallery for reflective or pre-recorded moments. Use GPS to guide players to a location before filming begins, and finish screens can be customized to match the tone of the task. Video Tasks work especially well for team challenges, storytelling, reenactments, and talent showcases.
How to Create Video Tasks
Step 1: Open the Deckle app or use the Web version.
Step 2: Choose your game type — Group or Solo.
Group Mode: Players team up before starting. You can allow them to pick their teams or let Deckle auto-assign groups using emoji matching. Each participant is given a random emoji, and they pair up by finding someone with the same one. Group mode is great for collaboration and team work.
Solo Mode: Players participate independently. If you want them to explore a place, learn about new things, or simply complete challenges on their own, solo mode is for you.

Step 3: In the Deckle Dashboard,
Click "+Task" to begin the task
Select Video as the task submission type.
In the Task Prompt, name your activity.
Click Done — your task is now saved in your collection.

Tips & Best Practices
Creating a Video Task is simple — but using these extra features will help you deliver a more dynamic and engaging experience:
➤ Add a Task Description:
Use the description field to give players more context. You can include:
A brief script or what to say ("Hi, I am Leo and my favorite food is Butter Chicken!"
A prompt for movement or action ("Fold arms and stand tall to show confidence and strength!")
A fun twist (e.g., “Do it in slow motion!”)
This helps players feel confident and creative before recording.
➤ Allow Gallery Upload
Let players upload a pre-recorded video from their device.
Useful for reflective prompts, team projects, or when filming live isn’t practical (like sharing a video message from an earlier event).

➤ Upload a Task Image
Use an image to reinforce the theme, show a sample pose, or display branding.
This can help players understand what kind of video you’re expecting.
➤ Enable Location Function
Guide players to a specific place before they start recording.
Perfect for location-based challenges, like filming a cheer at a campus landmark or a skit at a designated checkpoint.
➤ Customize the Finish Page
Upload a fun or branded image that appears once the video is submitted. You can:
Celebrate with a “Nice performance!” graphic
Reinforce your brand
Show what’s coming next

➤ Assign default points to the task
Add points to the task based on importance or difficulty.
Players receive points after completing the task and contribute to the leaderboard; this encourages friendly competition.
