Tasks

Participants type out a short answer based on your prompt. It's perfect for quick trivia questions, riddles, reflection moments, or collecting fun, creative responses. Whether you want them to solve a puzzle or share something personal, this task keeps things simple and engaging.

How to Create Text Tasks

Step 1: Open the Deckle app or try our web version.

Step 2: Choose your game type — Group or Solo.

  • Group Mode: Teams are formed before the activity begins. Participants can decide their own groups, or Deckle can randomly create them using emoji matching. Each person gets an emoji and links up with someone holding the same one. This mode is excellent for encouraging teamwork and cooperation.

  • Solo Mode: Players take part on their own. It’s perfect if the goal is for them to explore, gain knowledge, or complete tasks independently.

Step 3: Enter the Manage Tasks page.

  1. Click + Task to initiate.

  2. Choose Q&A as the task submission type.

  3. In the Task Prompt, name your question (e.g., “What year was our university founded?” or “What’s one word to describe your orientation experience?”).

Step 4: Step up your Q&A

  1. Choose Answer Type:

    • Fixed Answer – Host provides the correct response(s). Players must answer correctly to pass.

    • Open-Ended – Any answer typed by the player will be accepted.

  2. If using a fixed answer, type in the correct response(s).

  3. Click Done — your task is now saved in your collection.

Tips & Best Practices

Creating a Q&A task is straightforward, but the right settings make it far more engaging and effective. Consider using these features:

Add a Task Description

Provide context, a hint, or even a fun introduction.

  • Example: “This question checks how well you know our campus history. Think back to the tour earlier today!”

Assign Default Points

Set points for each task to reward players for participation or knowledge.

  • Fixed-answer tasks are great for scoring quizzes.

  • Points automatically add to the leaderboard, encouraging friendly competition.

Add a Task Image

Include a supporting visual clue, diagram, or brand logo.

  • Helps reinforce the theme and provides an extra hint if needed.

Add a Location

Direct players to a specific place before answering.

  • Example: “Head to the library entrance. Once you arrive, answer: Who is the statue in front of the library?”

Customize the Finish Page

Show a celebratory message or the correct answer once players submit.

  • Example: “Correct! The university was founded in 1853 🎉”

  • For open-ended tasks, you could display an inspirational or fun message.

Add Multiple Fixed Answers

Accept variations of the correct answer to avoid confusion.

  • Example: For “How many legs does an insect have?“ Answers: "six", "Six", or "6".
