Building 168 is the current home of the University of Melbourne Student Union (UMSU). With a living history that extends over 130 years, UMSU is a non-profit organisation run by students, for students. All students automatically have access to all Student Union services including support services, representation on issues that affect students, arts and culture, and a thriving student community.

Elected Office Bearers of UMSU all have their offices here.

You will also find study spaces, food vendors, the Info Desk here and the home of Farrago Magazine. First published on 3 April 1925, Farrago is Australia’s oldest student publication. Beginning as a weekly newspaper before transitioning into a magazine, Farrago now prints six editions per year as well as its annual creative writing and art anthology Above Water, and the UMSU Election Guide.

Farrago’s name, a Latin term meaning ‘mixed cattle fodder’, is drawn from the motto Quidquid agunt homines nostri farrago libelli est—“Whatever men do forms the motley subject of our page”.
